V&A Dundee & The Dalmore Whisky
Last summer I was very pleased to work on a commission for the V&A Dundee and The Dalmore to capture some images to celebrate their partnership.
The brief was to capture images of one of The Dalmore’s stunning whisky bottles, the King Alexander III, on location (inside and out) at the V&A, where the bottle was the main focus but it was clear that it was the V&A in and around the image.
I had to do some test shots before being awarded the commission and it was great fun coming up with ideas to show what I would do. The test shots, ultimately led to me winning the commission to do the shoot.
It would have been much easier capturing the bottle in the studio and photoshopping it into place but this was not the brief! So the challenges were plenty in trying to light the bottle from different angles as well as trying not to drop and smash it whilst positioned precariously on various benches/edges all whilst trying to get the right natural conditions to capture the images as well.
The work was done during the summer and the looks I got from the visitors down at the waterfront wondering what I was up to were very amusing I am sure and many did come up to ask me what I was up to treating this bottle of whisky like it was gold! The bottle I was shooting with was not a fake but the real deal so I was very careful!
The final images were retouching by the ever amazing Paul Hill Retouching, whom I have worked with before, to finish off the images with any post-production the client wanted outside of the standard edits and the whole project was very complicated and tiring but I enjoyed every moment of it.
Some behind the scenes images of me capturing the images for the commission! The things we do to get the images…
